Ausiello: March 15! And Jim Rash confirms that a new castmember has come on board during the hiatus. His stage name may ring a bell or two: The Grim Reaper. “One of our key characters won’t make it to the end of the season,” he tells TVLine. “We lose one of our own.”

Ausiello: March 15! And I’m celebrating the only way I know how — by slinging scoop: One of this season’s final episodes will pay homage to Ocean’s 11 when the Greendale gang gets entangled in the heist to end all heists. Naturally, Chang is at the center of the operation, which I’m told boasts some of Community‘s most lavish costumes to date. (And for this show, that’s saying something.)

“Community” returns on Thursday, March 15 (8-8:30 p.m. ET) as NBC re-sets the night with “30 Rock” shifting to 8:30-9 p.m. (ET) followed by “The Office” (9-9:30 p.m. ET) and “Up All Night” (9:30-10 p.m. ET). “Parks and Recreation” comes back on Thursday, April 19 (9:30-10 p.m. ET) to finish its season after “Up All Night” has ended its 24-episode original season run in the time period.

While NBC’s Community has been on hiatus from our TV screens since December, the crew hasn’t slowed down on production for the remaining episodes of its third season. And it has recently nabbed an actor creator Dan Harmon once named as one of his “dream guests.”

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that The Daily Show With Jon Stewart contributor, writer and actor John Hodgman has signed on for a guest role in an episode airing toward the end of its third season. I’m not at liberty to disclose the specifics as the producers would like to keep it a surprise for the fans.

THR did catch up with star Gillian Jacobs (who plays Britta) during a set visit in which she commented on Hodgman’s breadth of knowledge (“He’s an encyclopedia.”) and revealed that his guest appearance represents a professional reunion for the two actors.

“I was actually in an ‘I’m a Mac, I’m a PC’ ad that never aired,” she says. “So, this is my second time working with Hodgman.”

Aside from contributing to The Daily Show and appearing in those iconic Apple commercials, Hodgman has also appeared on Bored to Death, Battlestar Galactica, and The Flight of the Conchords. His film credits include Coraline, The Invention of Lying, and Arthur.

He has also written three books in his “trilogy of complete world knowledge,” which he concluded with last year’s That Is All.

NBC hasn’t given Community a return date yet, but its remaining episodes of Season 3 include a civil war-inspired episode, a Law & Order-themed episode, and the return of The Cosby Show’s Malcolm-Jamal Warner.

There was sadness on the set of NBC’s Community when a familiar face learned his time at Greendale Community College will soon come to a sudden end.

“A character from the show will die,” reveals star Joel McHale. He says the victim, although probably not one of the comedy’s main stars, is “someone you’ve seen a lot. And he dies in the mid-afternoon.”
